Lake County District Court Warrant Filings
The District Court in Lake County is part of the 6th Judicial District. Judges issue warrants based on applications from law enforcement. Under Minn. Stat. § 626.07, there are five specific grounds for a search warrant. These include stolen property, items used in a crime, illegal items, things held to commit a crime, and evidence of a crime.
Warrant records at the court include the signed order, the supporting affidavit, and the return. The return is what the officer files after the warrant has been carried out. It lists what was found and taken. Under Minn. Stat. § 626.15, search warrants must be served and returned within ten days. After that window, the warrant is void.
You can search Lake County court records through Minnesota Court Records Online. The system is free and works for all 87 counties. Search by name or case number to find warrant-related filings. Documents filed after July 1, 2015 may be viewable online. For older records, you need to contact court administration in Two Harbors.
Warrant Laws That Apply in Lake County
Every warrant issued in Lake County must follow state law. Under Minn. Stat. § 626.08, probable cause is required. No judge can sign a warrant without it. The officer must provide a sworn affidavit that names the person or place and describes what is to be seized. This protects people from broad or baseless searches.
Service hours matter too. Warrants in Lake County are normally served between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM under Minn. Stat. § 626.14. If the officer wants to serve a warrant at night, the judge must approve it ahead of time. No-knock warrants require even more proof. The officer must show that nobody inside the home would be safe if they knocked first.
Under Minn. Stat. § 13.82, warrant index data is private until the subject has been served or taken into custody. At that point the data becomes public. This means some Lake County warrant records may not be available until after service.
Note: Lake County enters warrants into both the state IDACS system and the national NCIC database for law enforcement access.
